About Me

I am a mother of three boys (three boys, being punished for my sins!) and have been a fan of photography for years. I started shooting weddings seriously about five years ago. With the arrival of my twins, I decided to reduce my working hours in order to spend more time at home with my boys. Using photography to make up for the loss of income was a natural progression.

This is where you will be able to catch regular excerpts of what I am up to...

I'm completely bogged down with this insane explosion of weddings, which have yet to be posted and whilst it's amazing that I am so busy, it feels somewhat overwhelming at times.  Into the mix, throw in a PC upgrade alongside the usual glitches that follow, and I'd have to be the first to admit that I'm actually looking forward to the quieter months of winter.

Today, however, I'm excited to share some highlights from a recent wedding we photographed at Greenleaves; that of PJ's and Marise's.

Thank you both for fuelling my addiction for big moody skies and allowing me to drag you to the meilie field where, yes, there was a threat, just a small one ;-) of lightning . . . and thank you weather gods for your sympathetic restraint, as we did manage to freeze-frame a few portraits before the skies opened up.

It was Stellar day!

Okay, so I can't fib - this wedding ceremony was totally out of this world!

A day that began so unpromisingly with overcast skies and rain, then a flat tyre and a desolate town right out of the Twighlight Zone, developed into a sun-kissed masterpiece atop the Madikwe Hills, watching Donna and Robert exchange vows amidst the African panorama that Madikwe truly is.

In one fleeting day we learnt about the Finnish Ninjas, Nick the photo bomb, "Penga Penga", "Mala Mala", about special guests who should've been there and what the Milky Way really looks like thanks to the sheer darkness that only nightfall in the African bush can bestow.  A weekend that may sound gibberish to those who weren't present, but for those that were, I am sure that Donna's and Robert's intimate marriage will be etched into their memories for many years to come.

We had far too much fun☺, so thank you both for granting us the honour of witnessing such an especially beautiful day that simply brimmed with joy.

Robert and Donna's first dance was such an emotional moment that it had me shedding a tear behind the camera.

I loved the décor, the mismatching bridesmaids' dresses and then watching Jenny and her bridesmaids perform their gangnam-style dance... but what I really loved?

Well, I adored photographing the moment Jenny's dad first saw her in her wedding dress and their moving embrace afterwards.  I loved capturing Jenny's and Chris's first kiss as husband and wife and watching Chris's mum wipe away Jenny's tears during his groom speech.  To me, these are those split-second memories that I'm really thrilled I managed to record on the day.

Yes, I photographed the flowers (tick), shoes, (tick), family formals, (tick), plus we managed to get some incredible couple-portraits (tick), but it's the momentary instances that make me so chuffed I was there at the right time and the right place to seal the occasion.

It's the timeless love story of a South African girl who, as I understand it, stalked and finally managed to win over and enchant her dashing Irishman ;-).

Then in the long run, after a whirlwind romance, her pursuit paid off and Graham ultimately popped the question.

A fast-forward to the here and now, and envisage a ceremony beneath a clear blue skies, followed by delicious canapes and Pimms, amidst a grove of tall trees and lush green grass - Georgina's and Graham's matrimony ticks all the boxes for those dreaming of a perfect outdoor wedding.

Add Irish charm and tradition, some seriously adorable children, laughter amongst friends and family from the world over, who had travelled from the four corners of the globe just to be with them.

Here are a few of my favourite frames.

Funny, how I do not have to tell you that this (above) is Georgina's mum, you can just tell by the emotion in her face.

February 17, 2013 // Children / Personal

Bare feet,

sun-kissed children,

warm nights sleeping in the tent,

ice-lollies,

catching crabs

...and impromptu foam parties.

Oh, how we do love summer.
