About Me

I am a mother of three boys (three boys, being punished for my sins!) and have been a fan of photography for years. I started shooting weddings seriously about five years ago. With the arrival of my twins, I decided to reduce my working hours in order to spend more time at home with my boys. Using photography to make up for the loss of income was a natural progression.

This is where you will be able to catch regular excerpts of what I am up to...

If you would like to contact me please email: andrea@andreacarlylephotography.co.za

My website is over here: www.andreacarlylephotography.co.za

I know first hand, as a photographer, that there are thousands of images of those people around us captured by the flicker of the lens, but none, or very, very few, actually includes us within the frame.

This year, I received an amazing gift (twice), which was, incredibly, a shoot with my children and I.

When Joretha (a wedding photographer herself) contacted me earlier this year, to photograph her family, I knew it was due time to pay this gift forward.

Here you are, Joretha, a few of my favourites:

November 23, 2010 // Children / Personal

Just yesterday, we received the news that there would be two.

Just yesterday, I gave birth to two baby boys.

Just yesterday, two teeny new newborns came into our lives,  packaged with double the noise and a puppy smell that made me want to hug and hold you until you popped.

Just yesterday, I watched your dadda take you out for your morning walks and hold your podgy fingers to trim your tiny fingernails.

Just  yesterday, I heard you call a caterpillar a pasta pillow.

Yes, blog readers, it was only just yesterday.

And today Jake and Liam are four.

Happy Birthday, Boys!

Eric Gaurkee:

AWESOME. I usually reserve myself from superlatives, especially when it comes to photography, considering that I see tons of awful imagery, with tags like "amazing", "mind blowing" and the like. My wife and I have a brand new baby girl, (our second, my son is about 2 months older than your twins) born in the very early morn of the 27th of November, 2010. I don't shoot newborns, and generally loathe the cutesy manner in which babies are portrayed. Of course, being a photographer, the question was "we want to see pictures". So, I decided to do some research, and find a style that I like. Yours is it. Inspirational. And now I drift over here to your blog. I find this. I'm just jotting a note to say that your style is very cool, and what you said has made me decide that I NEED to shoot the shots I want to remember my baby girl in this most special time. Thanks.

Andrea C:

Thank you for the kind words Eric.
Shoot away, it (time) really does go so VERY fast. Enjoy every second with your new arrival.

Dear Andrea. I found your blog on internet. The old one. And there I found the link to this new website. I just want you to know that I think your work is fantastic. I am a 21 yo brazilian girl. My boyfriend is canadian and I'm probably moving there very soon. As we already talked about getting married I search photographs very often and yours are the best I've seen so far. I'm in love with your work.

Andrea, the moments you capture are so crystal clear with life, joy and elegance I absolutely love your work. I am just starting out as a photographer, I live in the states, and am going to my first conference next week! If you wouldn't mind, I would love to know what kind of camera you are using, I don't know if the major brands are different in South Africa, but it is evident your camera and how you work the lens is fabulous. I hope you are enjoying yourself!

Thank you ladies!
@ Joanna - this picture was taken with the Canon 5D Mk11 with the 2.8 24-70 mm lens

how much did it cost you? and how many lenses do you use or is there one that pretty much does the job?

As I type this, the moments which come to mind are Taryn's bridesmaids, who cried even before Taryn walked down the aisle. The emotional walk down that coveted footpath, the awesome first dance and the presentation Taryn's father put together at the reception.

A dashing groom, a beautiful bride - who knew how to rock her frock - an emotional ceremony (that almost had me shedding a tear) and an all-out enormous party - what can I say? All in a day's work!

We decided to venture away from the traditional hot spots at Oakfield and both Taryn and Chris did not as much as flinch at the locations we suggested. Although, I might add, there was a slither of panic in Taryn's eye when I mentioned the swing ;-)

No more blabbering from my side - I am far too excited to show off the images from this wedding.

November 8, 2010 // Children / Personal

I was at my PC surfing my regular haunts of inspiration on the Web, with Oliver at my side,  when I happened upon my favourite children photographer's blog.

In one image, Oliver spotted a kite and asked: "Can I have one of those?"
So, of course, that kite we made.

Here's Liam with the kite that does not fly ;-)
