About Me

I am a mother of three boys (three boys, being punished for my sins!) and have been a fan of photography for years. I started shooting weddings seriously about five years ago. With the arrival of my twins, I decided to reduce my working hours in order to spend more time at home with my boys. Using photography to make up for the loss of income was a natural progression.

This is where you will be able to catch regular excerpts of what I am up to...

I have been working ferociously this past week in an attempt to catch up with my editing, which is no easy task, being beset with the distractions of hyperactive midgets and the World Cup.

On the photography side, however, it's been a good week, as we were nominated for two VOW awards, along with news two of our portrait images and a wedding portfolio also succeeded to the finals of the African Photographic Awards.  Oh, and to put the cherry on the cake, two of our clients' weddings were featured in the latest Wedding Inspirations Magazine.

So, from a low-key perspective, it's been quite a fairly decent week.

OK, my apologies, as I do realise self-satisfaction can be awfully annoying.  In fact, my intention was to be all modest and humble and not to blow my own trumpet, but, sod it; I'm chuffed to the nines with the news!

It's funny how fast time flies by when you're a wedding photographer. I can remember chatting to Marcelle over a cappuccino like it was yesterday.  Fast forward four months and here we are, Marcelle's and Steyn's wedding. A wedding, mind you, that won't be forgotten in a hurry. Some weddings have a certain something about them, which, if not unusual, are at least different from the norm.  Marcelle's and Steyn's was one of those celebrations.

Firstly, it was an evening ceremony, so we scheduled their photo-shoot beforehand and, secondly, it was our very first ever medieval-themed wedding.

I have to pass on a big thanks to Marcelle and Steyn for being fabulous and so relaxed on their wedding day! My deepest gratitude to you both.  I can't wait to show you the rest!

You can see in the eyes they are really relaxed. It really shows in the photos and I am sure it was a blast from the past. No pun intended.

Marcelle:

Wow thanks so much. This is like getting a little bite of chocolate and being told you cant have any more. Now all you want is the rest of the chocolate!!! Thank-you Andrea and Stella we really had fun taking the pictures even if you did make me get full of black jacks, climb mountains (okay- not quite but almost) and rumple in the grass. I knew the pics were going to be fantastic could not ask for better.

To undertake Angie's and Pierre's big day, this project turned out to be very much a 'destination wedding' for Ursula and I.  Basically, what was initially a mere  2-hour trip to Brits, developed into an epic 6-hour road expedition, littered with potholes and sand roads - you name it!

Any way, as gorgeous as any location may be, it's really the people who make a wedding.  Besides the marathon blockbuster voyage, Ursula and I have lots of funny stories from this assignment that'll make us smile for quite some time to come.

I shall, however, just say this:   It was truly a pleasure to be a part of Angie's and Pierre's celebration.  You're a beautiful couple together and we enjoyed every second photographing both of you, not forgetting all of your warm, gracious and fun friends and family.

Thank you both for your hospitality and for making a plan with journey-induced accommodation.

Whilst I definitely do not make it a habit to showcase a second-shooter's images on my blog, I quite simply couldn't resist these.

First off, they are much too cute not to post and, above all, I noticed Stella didn't either. Secondly, this post will buy me some time to do my write-up for the next wedding.

To be read in the whispered tones of David Attenborough:

There she is.  The innocent and endearingly wholesome flowergirl.  Yes, entirely discreet to the naked eye; merely observing the bride and groom cut the cake.  And then, remarkably, with no warning whatever, she then swiftly pounces on the unsuspecting cupcake and, without fear nor favour, it's over. The cupcake is devoured and no-one has noticed a thing.

Thanks for posting theses, Andrea! It's funny what you miss when going through the images sometimes...love the David Attenborough write up :) You have a wonderful way with words on top of being a fabulously talented photographer!

(05.25.10 @ 07:45 AM)
Nahtalie:

What a laugh... I even did the voice in David Attenborough. This just finished me off! My precious little niece who got those chocolate fingers all over the maid of honours dress. Thanks Andrea or should I say Stella :)

(05.25.10 @ 12:55 PM)
Andrea Carlyle:

I can not take full credit for the wording either, as my written drafts are proofed and polished by DH extrodinaire.

Carla:

Love it!

After taking the wrong turn far too many times, Stella and I finally found our location for the creatives.

Content with our discovery, we crossed our fingers in the hope it wouldn't rain and also crossed our toes hoping our bridal couple would be game for an off-site location.

There are really no words to describe how special and intimate their ceremony was. Outside on the lawn, it was a small, profound and beautiful exchange of vows, between two people before those most dearest to them.

After the ceremony, we realised our crossing of fingers was of no help (the toes worked though), as almost timed to perfection, the rain decided to join us for the creative portraits.

Given the cold and wet weather we faced, the fact Betty has a thing about dirty feet and this preposterous request made by the photographers, I have to say Thank you.  I really should get medals made...you guys deserved Gold!

Now, just before I post these, I really have to mention both Betty and Richard are adamant (in bold and I would have underlined it 10 times) they are very uncomfortable hate facing the camera. To this end, I present you, the viewers, with the images for you to decide!

Betty. Richard.  I say you guys rocked the camera - Northcliff hill will never be the same!.
